For Newly-Diagnosed Families and Individuals Affected by Autism

Where do I start...?

Every family who has received an autism diagnosis has asked this same question: Where do we start? Autism Society - The Heartland is here to help you get started on your journey. This list assumes that you have already received a diagnosis.

Information and Referral - Autism Society-The Heartland has extensive resource lists of different providers in Kansas and Missouri. Our lists include services ranging from speech-language pathology, to ABA providers, to dentists, and day services. If you would like a copy of any of our resource lists, please call 913-706-0042 or email your request to ashofficeasst@gmail.com. You can find more information about the different resource lists available here.

Lending Library - Come to our office located in Suite 270A at Regnier Hall at the KU Edwards Campus and look at our Lending Library books that will help you on your journey. Many of the books have been donated by Autism Asperger Publishing Company. Please note our office hours on our home page or call 913-706-0042 if you want to make sure someone is in the office.

Saturday Seminars - These are educational workshops held the second Saturday of each month to help our families and individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Find more information here and a library of webinars of many of our previous seminars.

Social Media -- Our Facebook page is a great place to interact with other families with loved ones on the spectrum. If you follow us on Twitter (@ASHeartland) and/or Instagram (asheartland), you will see short posts and updates there, as well. Any of these social media platforms are a great way to interact with other parents and individuals on the same journey and with the same mission.

Support Groups - We offer a variety of support groups in the KC metro area. We currently only offer virtual support groups, but in the past have held in-person groups in Wyandotte County, Johnson County, and Kansas City, MO. The individuals who organize and attend these groups have been down the path you are starting now, and are great resources for information and support. Our support groups offer time to network with other parents, gather information from guest speakers, and create an opportunity to meet new friends. It is a safe environment to ask questions and get support. Find out more about our Support Groups here, or contact us.
